En attendant le retour des bêtes sauvages

The Marseille based artist, Stephane STF Moscato, tirelessly walks the streets peeling off whole sections of posters which he then fixes onto canvas in his studio. Then begins a creative dialogue with the support as a random word, part of a face or colour stands out. The artist uses stencils but refuses the reproducible character of the technique by composing works which are unique (never reproduced) and polysemiotic. He lets himself be guided by the meaning which emerges from these fragments of the street.

For the serie „En attendant le retour des bêtes sauvages“, Stephane STF Moscato practiced a painting with constraint, which proved to be an exercise both stimulating and disarming. This has allowed him to evolve his painting and by the same token the aestheticism of the stencil and to get out of the place where the public often locks it up the „street art“ movement. So exit the black and the pure white, the use of the two faces of the stencil disappeared to the benefit of the appearance of a more „classic“ painting with the acrylic which finally opposes with a lot of interest to the rigidity of the stencil. As for the collage, this time it is put at the service of graphic choices that emphasize and structure the composition differently.

The wild animals send back to the spectator some anthropomorphic sketches taken from his direct environment with which he can sometimes identify. While waiting for the return of the real wild fauna.

Stephane STF Moscato exhibits since 2008 at Gallery Guillaume Daeppen, Basel
